A beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother. She was an Aunt and sister as well and loved by so many people. Aileen had a kind and generous heart and was very creative. When she was Ninety-Five she made over One-Hundred baby quilts that were donated through her church to babies in need. She was very crafty and made angels for many years for craft shows and the church bazar. People called her the angel lady and most of her church congregation has at least one of her hand crafted angels. She has been a member of Glenmont United Methodist Church for about Sixty-Seven years.
Aileen grew up in Lovington Va. She was raised on a farm with Seven other siblings. She worked hard as a child one of her chores was to milk the cow before she went to school.
She left Virginia to go to Washington D.C. in the mid 40’s. The men were at war so she lived in a boarding house and worked for the Government. John E. Runkle came home from the war, met her, and the marriage came shortly there after. They loved each other so very much.
John and Aileen were married for 67 years. They resided in Wheaton, MD for most of their married life. They had three children together. Kenny, Kevin and Gayle. Aileen worked for many years at Farmland Elementary School in Rockville, Md as a teachers aid. John worked for the International Brotherhood of Teamsters. When John retired they bought a lakefront property in Lake Gaston, NC. They spent many summers there with friends and family.
Aileen passed at the age of 99. She lived a long and blessed life and was loved by so many as she loved them as well. She is survived by her children: Kenny and Gayle; her sister: Mary Jane; her grandchildren: Mathew, Casey, Amanda, and Jeremy; and her great grandchildren, Penelope, Hadley and Camryn.
